Viana do Castelo's Mayor

This magazine is an invitation. An invitation to visit us, to be acquainted with the charms and beauties, to discover the places and landscapes enjoy our best gastronomy in a soo- thing, relaxing, safe and festive atmosphere. Moreover, this was the reason why the City Council of Viana do Castelo prepared, with all due care, a magazine providing us with an itinerary to discover our main riches, leaving many others out, of course, but exalting and giving us the opportunity to familiarize ourselves with some of our main treasures. The photograph, a unique look of one that shows us what belongs to everyone, leads the visitor through our tradition, our pilgrimage, our customs, as well as the “Ribeira” (riverside region) and the fish dishes that characterize it so much. They show a Viana full of tradition but also a modern city, offering music and shows aiming to please all tastes, with buildings signed by the greatest and best architects in all of Portugal, some of them already awarded with Pritzker prizes. They also show a Viana of emotions, sensations, pilgrimage and landscapes of sea, river and mountain. This is the invitation we are hereby proposing. An invitation that, while seeing and reading, will allow you to savour and feel Viana’s inhabitants most precious possessions. The invitation to discover a city with a soul, as well as lively parishes and a city council where it feels good to stay. Because “Viana is love”, but also a hospitable land that truly knows how to welcome.
